Set in a Manhattan housing project apartment between 2003 and 2007, Tranquila Mami: An Upper Westside Story, is my autobiographical play about a Puerto-Rican family that explores the relationship between the adult daughter and primary caregiver, her mother who suffers from dementia, and her adult son, a Navy veteran of the Post 9/11 Iraq War.
I debuted the play reading of Tranquila Mami: An Upper Westside Story at Coogan’s Irish Bar & Restaurant in Washington Heights, NYC, aka ‘Broadway Uptown,’ to a full house in May of 2019.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic in 2020, the staged reading of my play with Emerging Artists Theatre in New York City was postponed. In October 2021 (Hispanic Heritage Month), I produced and directed the staged play reading of Tranquila Mami: An Upper Westside Story, as an Actors’ Equity-Approved Showcase production with Emerging Artist Theatre, followed by a Q&A Talkback session which was well-received.
As an actor, I was cast in Into the Woods Sr. as The Steward, directed by Scott Klavan at the Lenox Hill Neighborhood House which premiered in June 2019 to four sold-out performances.
I met Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine during a private rehearsal at Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, where a photo was taken with them and the entire cast which I will always treasure! (There was an article featured in the front page of the New York Times Arts Section - Saturday, July 6th, 2019).
A seasoned Columbia-trained licensed clinical social worker/LCSW/psychotherapist by profession, I provide coaching & psychotherapy services for artists of various genres. Not actively practicing at this time, I am focused on further developing my playwriting skills as a new Resident Playwright with the 29th Street Playwrights Collective.
I am delighted and grateful for this opportunity of a lifetime!
